SAN AGUSTÍN TOUR

So, we started the San Agustín Tour with a visit to Bogotá and its beauties from the colonial era. Two excursions, to Zipaquirá, where the Catedral De Sal is located, a suggestive cathedral built in a salt mine and to Villa De Leyva, a small town but of great historical importance that fully preserves the architecture of the colonial era.

We continue the San Agustín Tour with Neiva in the very particular Tatacoa Desert where from its Astronomical Observatory we will admire the sky. Let’s continue with Saint Augustine visiting its necropolis from 3500 BC. with monolithic statues.

Finally, we arrive at the warm climate of the Santa Marta coast at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, with its spectacular white beaches of Tayrona Park. To finish with the wonderful Cartagena with its fortifications and the Walled City.

1° DAY / Bogotá:

Arrival at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá in the afternoon, where our assistants will be waiting for us. after the airport formality, we headed abroad for the transfer in private and comfortable vehicles to the La Candelaria sector (duration 20 minutes approx.), at the San Francisco De Asís hotel a short distance from the historic center, always very crowded until late at night with a selection of restaurants and nightclubs where you can dine (free not included) or relax in one of the many typical restaurants in the city, and then return to the hotel.

2° DAY / Bogotá - Zipaquirá - Bogotá:

fter breakfast, we head north of Bogotá to reach Zipaquirá, a small town (duration 1 hour approx.), To reach the Catedral De Sal, a cathedral built inside a salt mine, considered one of the works most important artistic and architectural structures in Colombia. The salt and marble sculptures create a unique atmosphere that attracts many tourists and religious. At the exit we refresh ourselves in the kiosks of the panoramic terrace and return to Bogotá (duration 1 hour approx.), Lunch (free not included) in one of the typical restaurants on the way back, to arrive in Bogotá early in the afternoon and have the time to visit Monserrate accessible by cable car or funicular where we can have dinner (free not included), enjoying the sunset and the panoramic view.

3° DAY / Bogotá - Villa De Leyva - Bogotá:

After breakfast, we head back to the north of Bogotá, but this time to go to Villa Di Leyva (duration 3 hours and 30 minutes approx.), A beautiful town that completely preserves the style of the colonial era. We walk through its narrow streets completely paved in stone, we visit the wide square where the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary and the House of the Congress of the United Provinces are located. Lunch (free not included), through the streets of the town and leaving the center we cannot not visit the very particular Casa Terracota. We pass through Ráquira and Chiquinquirá on the return trip for a short visit to arrive in Bogotá in the afternoon. Dinner (free not included) and return to the hotel.

4° DAY / Bogotá - Neiva:

After breakfast, we go to El Dorado airport in Bogotá, to take the flight Bogotá-Neiva (duration 1 hour approx.), Where a van will be waiting for us that will take us to Villaveja (duration 1 hour approx.), A small town in the Tatacoa Desert, at the Oasis De La Tatacoa hotel. We settle in the rooms and go to the small center for lunch (free not included), we return to the hotel and go out again for dinner (free not included) and then we go to the Astronomical Observatory of La Tatacoa (duration 15 minutes approx.), Where we participate to a brief lecture and then visit the observatory, which due to its location near the equator and the very low noise and light pollution allows the observation of all 88 constellations and the meteor shower. Return to the hotel in the evening.

5° DAY / Neiva - Desierto De La Tatacoa - San Agustín:

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we return to the Tatacoa Desert (duration 15 minutes approx.), Where we begin the walk, but this time in daylight to appreciate the very special landscape, which in the course of its evolution geological transforms from a tropical sea to a forest populated by prehistoric animals and finally into the desert that is before our eyes. At the end, we begin the transfer to San Agustín (duration 6 hours approx.), The trip will not be boring at all, we flank the Magdalena River for long stretches, stopping on the way to refresh ourselves with fresh fruit and for lunch (free not included). We arrived in San Agustín in the afternoon at the Hospedaje Andino hotel, we settled in our rooms and went freely through the streets of the city. At night we went out to dinner (free not included), in one of the typical restaurants of the city to return to the hotel at night.

6° DAY / San Agustín:

After breakfast, we go to the entrance of the San Agustín Archaeological Park (duration 5 minutes approx.), A necropolis dating back to 3500 BC. where different ethnic groups from South America came from distant places to bury their dead, representing them with monolithic sculptures. We began the visit of the park from Table B where the most important people were buried, all the statues were painted, but with the passage of time only some retain the 4 colors of the coral snake. We go down a path where we notice a frog carved into the rock, the symbol of fertility, which indicates that we are about to reach the Fuente De Lavapatas, where the richest women assisted by the shaman with a ritual gave birth in the waters of the fountain. We reached the Altos De Lavapatas to enjoy the view and continue with Table C and Table A, where time has kept some traces of color. Finally we visit the Forest Of The Statues Where the sculptures are submerged in the jungle. We return to the center of San Agustín (duration 5 minutes approx.), For lunch (free not included), in the afternoon we go out with a horse ride to visit the Ethnographic Museum El Tablon to return to the hotel in the afternoon. We went out to the small center for dinner (free not included). Return to the hotel in the evening.

7° DAY / San Agustín:

After breakfast, we go to Obando (duration 30 minutes approx.) Passing through El Estrecho Del Río Magdalena, after a stop in the small town, we visit the museum, where there are some underground tombs, we continue until we reach the Parque De Los Idolos , where is the statue of San Agustín, 7 meters high, and the various Mounds with the various representations. At the end, lunch (free not included) in a typical restaurant just outside the park, we continue the visit to the Parque de Las Piedras where the statue of the Double I is located, and finally the Salto Del Mortiño waterfall. We return to the hotel to go out shortly after for dinner (free not included) in the small town of San Agustín. Return to the hotel in the evening.

8° DAY / San Agustín - Neiva - Bogotá - Santa Marta:

After breakfast, our vans will be waiting for us to transfer to Neiva (duration 5 hours approx.), It will be a day of travel but still very interesting. Lunch (free not included) during the transfer. We arrived at the Benito Salas Vargas de Neiva airport to take the flight Neiva-Bogotá (duration 1 hour approx.) And after a few hours the flight connecting Bogotá-Santa Marta (duration 1 hour approx.). Outside the airport our vans will be waiting for us to take us to the city center to the Nueva Granada hotel (duration approx. 20 minutes). We settled into our rooms and went out to the downtown streets for dinner (free not included). I return to the hotel late at night.

9° DAY / Santa Marta:

After breakfast, we leave and dedicate the whole day to get to know the city, Santa Marta is the oldest city in Colombia, founded in 1525 by Rodrigo De Bastidas, which rests in the Basilica Cathedral, it is also a city of great historical importance, once was the last residence of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, so we visited the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino where he spent the last days of his life. Lunch (free not included) in one of the many typical restaurants in the center. In the afternoon we continue the visit to the city by taking a walk along the promenade to the Marina De Santa Marta, to return in the afternoon to the Nueva Granada hotel. At night we go out to dinner (free not included) and we continue the night in one of the many places in the center. I return to the hotel late at night.

10° DAY / Santa Marta - Parque Tayrona - Santa Marta:

Early in the morning, after breakfast, our vans will be waiting for us for a transfer to El Zaino, entrance to Tayrona Park (duration 1 hour approx.), Where the park vans will take us to Cañaveral (duration 15 minutes approx.), and from there we walk through the park trails and arrive at Playa Arrecifes, but we can get to Cabo San Juan Del Guía through Playa La Gaviota, Playa La Arenilla and Playa La Piscina, we have lunch (free not included) in a restaurant in the beach with fresh fish menus. In the afternoon, if we feel like it, we can do a trekking to Chayrama, an ancient community of Tayrona Indians, now known as Pueblito (duration 1 hour and 30 minutes approx.), Which was a meeting point for artisans, farmers and fishermen, that in the small squares, they exchanged their goods to obtain public, civil and ceremonial services. In the afternoon, we return to Cañaveral and with the park vans we return to the park entrance to El Zaino (duration 15 minutes approx.), Where our vans will be waiting for us that will take us back to Santa Marta (duration 1 hour approx. ), to return to the Nueva Granada hotel. 11° DAY / Santa Marta - Cartagena:

Early in the morning, after breakfast, our vans will be waiting for us for the transfer to Cartagena De Indias (duration 4 hours and 30 minutes approx.), We will arrive at the heart of the city just before lunch, at Getsemani, in La Casona De Getsemani, A few steps from the Walled City, a fortification built during the colonial era due to the continuous looting of pirates. Just the moment to sit in the rooms and we can immerse ourselves in the streets of this wonderful city of great historical importance with many buildings, symbol of colonial architecture, there are many things to visit and a guide is recommended to fully enjoy the beauty of each corner. Let’s immediately start the Castle of San Felipe De Barajas that is outside the Getsemani on the way back, we have lunch (free not included), to go out again to visit the Clock Tower, The Churches of San Pedro Claver and the Palacio De La Inquisition and return to the hotel in the afternoon. We go out at night for dinner (free not included), to end the night in one of the many squares that offer live music with restaurants, nightclubs and typical places, to return to the hotel late at night.

12° DAY / Cartagena:

After breakfast, we can choose whether to freely walk around the city visiting the Bazurto Market, El Portal De Los Dulces and the Museo Del Cacao or participate in a Full-Day on Barú Island (free not included), spending the rest of the day in the beach with lunch (free not included) based on fresh fish. Return to Cartagena in the afternoon in time to walk to the city walls to enjoy the sunset and return to the hotel in the evening. Dinner (free not included), in one of the many restaurants in Getsemani, concluding the night in some of the local attractions of the Walled City, to return to the hotel late at night.

13° DAY / Cartagena - Bogotá:

After breakfast, we go to the Rafael Núñez de Cartagena national airport to take the Cartagena-Bogotá flight (duration 1 hour and 30 minutes approx.), Where our assistants wait for us for the departure of the international flight that will take us back.
